Golden Year of the Pig

Straight after Valentines day, we've got another red coloured event happening - Chinese New year!

Unlike the rest of Asia who celebrate this time of the year with holidays, grand family gatherings, tons of food, red packets and fortune cookies, its business as usual for Filipinos like me.

Not until I came to Australia did I learn how important this event was. Its about as important to Chinese as Christmas is to Christians.

Because of the strong catholic influence in the Philippines, I've only thought of Chinese New Year as merely a moon cake baking season.

Chinese new year is probably also the worst time to travel to Chinese countries. All the shops are closed and everyone is visiting relatives or are at the temple or at home playing mah-jong.

So whats installed for me this new year? According to this, I will suffer much from frustration and delays, but they are minor setbacks for greater things. And that I'll be traveling!
And that I'll be moving houses!

ZOMG!! ITS SOOO TRUE!! I'm already very sexually frustrated.... because my purchased orders haven't arrived!! And yes, I've traveled to Geraldton and planning to maybe holiday to Singapore sometime the middle of this year. And I've moved houses! Its all true!

So it looks like this golden year of the pig, which happens once every 600 years, is a good year for me. I hope its a good year for everybody else too.

I get what you mean about the Filipino outlook on Chinese New Year, tikoy and dragon dances and fireworks... I've never really been invited to any such occasion by my chinese friends to know more.

It must be fun celebrating 2 New Years.

I love how you consider Skittles as round fruit. hehehe

Hi, What's going on there today? I visited the Philippines a few years ago, and am missing the good food, especially the halo-halo.
