Friday Night Fight Night

Anh, E-wen and I headed to Joondalup last friday to watch some Mixed Martial Art.

MAAAAN it was INSANEE!!!

These guys were fully ripping into each other!

Dont' say anything about the had - he'll kill you!!

I like it how the commentator tries to get the audience fired up - but you know what its really hard to jump around and cheer like you would in a basketball game because SOMEONE IS GETTING BEATEN UP in the ring.

Plus there's a lot of scary looking bad guys in the audience!

The part I like was between rounds.  OUch!! :P

Splashing around

3Willings
1) Steamboats
2) Almond jelly

3) Lil Wayne - Lollipop

For the past few weeks I've been teaching my girlfriend how to swim.

She's doing really well. She went from zero swimming skills to 12 meters in 4 sessions. Pretty good I think. Although I get the impression that the teacher favours her :P

I think swimming is a very important life skill.

I'd categorise it with essential things like reading and writing, first aid and Googling.

And I think once she's able to swim, we can finally look into submitting an application for The Amazing Race. (or maybe is should team up with someone who can already swim...)

Sadly, swimming and I have a love-hate relationship.

I love it coz it's a really good full body exercise and its really challenging mentally.

When you've swam 100m straight and your arms and legs are super heavy and tired and your chest is burning from lack of air and you've snorted about 2 litres of water, your mind starts taunting and ridiculing you.

"you can't make it... "
"might as well give up now.."
"the old lady is beating you.. "
"is that 10 cents at the bottom of the pool?"
"who's the girl in the black bikini.... damn those are hot legs "
"ohh. its the old lady... "

But you give it a bit more and push through.

And when you finally touch that finish wall you get this fantastic feeling of accomplishment.
Enough to make you want to do it again.

And I love swimming coz it makes chips taste really good afterward.
Nothing beats after-swimming hot potato chips :P

But there are a few things I hate about swimming.

Number one is the chlorine. Hate how it smells and it burns my eyes.

And I hate the fact that I get thirsty when swimming and I can't drink the water coz its got chlorine. I've drank it a few times, but I wouldn't want to make a habit of it, knowing how many times I've peed kids have peed in the water.

And most of all - I hate the changing afterward.

Always forgetting my towel is not the problem.
Nor is it the fact that whatever I do, my pants always end up being wet. Always.

What really annoys me are the old people parading around butt naked and flashing their shlongs as if I'm not there!

I mean, geeze man!! The only thing that I should be seeing that is pruney are my fingers! Talk about sight for sore eyes.

And for the not-so-old, damn!
I know I'm asian - no need to rub it in!!

3Willings
1) Muffins
2) Need for Speed Original Soundtracks
3) Moroccan Chicken

I've never been a fan of golf.

I haven't played it at all, so I can't bag it too much. It just seems so slow and poshy.

Plus it requires too much walking.

Now I appreciate that it takes tremendous amount of skill to get that dimpled white ball in a hole hundreds of yards away. Plus you have to do it in as few shots as possible. Still, it just doesn't look fun.

Not fun like Happy Gilmore anyway.

I just like to launch that ball and see how far it goes. Thats my kind of golfing! :P

My brother was given a set of golf clubs for his birthday and was keen to get me 'swinging' with him (that sounds almost wrong).

Sadly, you actually have to play a few holes of golf to ride these babies

So we got ourselves a bucket of balls each at a nearby golf range and spent an afternoon admiring how far we could get yellow golf balls flying.

And flying we sent them! Hehehehe.

Of course only two of every five actually got far. Most of the times they curved right and hit the trees. Some flew up a hundred metres only to land ten metres in front :S

My brother had the Michael Jackson thing going on with the one hand glove

Back in the Philippines, I grew up thinking golf was a sport reserved for the filthy rich. Only the snobby rich folks could afford a club membership. But where we went, we had old ladies and bricklayers and teenagers and all sorts of people playing golf and enjoying the range.

Maybe because its not an exclusive club that's why we didn't find any hot and sexy snobby looking golfing babes people. But it definitely changed my perception of the sport. Its for everyone!
I was concentrating so much.. I could have been laying golf balls

Still, I don't think I could ever get myself to actually play a game of golf.
I'm sticking with the driving range.. or golf with the Wii.

Boxed

Probably the heaviest barbecue chicken in the world.

Its like made of lead or something.

It was super heavy.

And I'm already using two hands and I can feel my muscles straining and aching.

Geeeze!! I felt I was gonna get hemorrhoids just by carrying it!
And this was just at the warm food section at Woolies!!

Phew!!

Relief after I got the chicken into the trolley.

*sigh*

This was gonna be a very long shopping experience.

***** Three hours earlier *****

"RUN! RUN! RUN! RUN!!!
KEEEP THOSE WEIGHTS CHEST HIGH!!
MOVE IT! MOVE IT MOVEEEEE IT!!!!" screamed the overly muscled Michelin-man of a gym instructor.

"YOU DIDN'T COME HERE TO WALK SO MOOOOOOVE YYOOOUR LAZY ASSES!!!
YOU CALL THAT A PUNCH??!!!
YOU CALL THAT A PUNCH?!!
SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!
MOOOOVE IT!!!"

I swear he could get a stroke screaming like that.

But it didn't matter how much he screamed.

I couldn't do anything anymore. My arms were dead.
The 3kg dumbbells have sapped strength out of my arms and no amount of motivational screaming could change that.
(maybe if he shaved his chest and didn't wear the gold chain, I could also take him a bit more seriously)

"How much more of this do I have to do?" I asked AJ.
"Well.. we've just started.. maybe 45 more minutes..."
"Ohh... great..."

The next hour consisted of more sprinting, jogging, frog-jumps, jabbing, uppercuts, hooks. Then when Michelin man decided to 'wind it down' we did 100 push ups, 100 sit-ups and 100 crunches.

Evil bastard.

Maybe the roids got to his brain or something.

***** Two days earlier *****

"Man, I'm sooooo sore. I've been doing this boxing class in Stirling. Its soooo hard!!" complained AJ.

"AJ?! Come on man!! Those exercise classes are easy!!
I think my girlfriend did a few of them last week!!"

And if my girlfriend who could barely do four push-ups can do it, I'm pretty sure everyone can do it.

So I took AJ's offer to join his boxing exercise class.

I mean, how hard could it be?

Plus I've been doing some exercise.... a few months ago I think... maybe...

But I also have a secret weapon!

I've seen the whole series of Hajime No Ippo!

Hajime is a japanese anime series about boxing. In the show you learn about hooks and jabs and shadow punches and dempsey rolls and training and all things boxing. (Btw, this series is the best anime series out there... if you don't believe me - look up the reviews on it).

And from the show, I've learnt that as long as you have 'the Will' and determination, anything is possible.

***** Recent phone conversation with girlfriend*****

"Hey, didn't you do a boxing class a week ago?" I asked.
"No. I did an aerobics and pump class....... "
"ohh.."
